“Productive, functional design results from a keen
understanding of each client’s vision, mission and
goals,” says Michael Shilale, AIA, LEED, founding
partner of Michael Shilale Architects, LLP (MSA) - a
busy New City, NY architectural engineering firm.
An important new facility – The Senator Thomas P.
Morahan Wellness Center, located in Valley Cottage,
NY – reflects MSA’s dedication to details. The
Center which provides valuable preventative,
supportive, treatment and advocacy services to
children, families, and adults, has received
numerous accolades for its creative design, use of
space and functionality.
“The Senator Thomas P. Morahan Wellness Center is
one of our proudest accomplishments. For the first
time in our 60+ year history, this best practice
center features the co-location of all of MHA’s
services. It allows for ease of access, sharing of
resources, expansion of programming, and the
creation of a therapeutic milieu that honors and
celebrates our clients. Michael Shilale Architects
made our vision a reality. Their hard work,
dedication, professionalism, and expertise were
invaluable to our organization,” says Stephanie
Madison, LMSW, President/CEO of Mental Health
Association of Rockland County (MHA).
Shilale’s firm was chosen by MHA from a field of
five other architectural firms, to design flexible
use rooms for varied ‘Wellness model” group
offerings, conference areas, and staff offices. In
addition to being sensitive to MHA’s objectives,
Shilale’s team had to adhere to MHA’s licensing
agencies requirements and a tight budget.
Future requirements and projected needs were also
addressed. According to Beth Siegelbaum, Coordinator
of Operations, future plans include adding an
elevator and generator. “MSA’s suggestion to include
some larger spaces on the generator (to meet the
goals of the agency’s Emergency/Disaster Plan) will
provide for the possibility of a ‘Shelter-In-Place’
site for the agency’ programs including residential
sites if the need arises.”
Shilale’s firm - noted for their best practices and
environmentally-sensitive LEED-accredited work - has
designed hundreds of innovative, functional
buildings in NY, NJ, CT, CA, MI and FL. Acclaimed
green projects include the award winning Kathleen
Lukens Living Center for Camp Venture in Sparkill,
and the Jawonio’s Tendler Center in New Hempstead,
NY.
