New City NY -
This Saturday, Oct. 2, (between 10 am and 2
pm), come take a first-hand look at over a dozen
'green' strategies that save energy and pay for
themselves. Michael Shilale Architects, (MSA)
is one of over 500 sites across the country
participating in the 14th annual Green Buildings
Open House. Last year Over 16,000 people
turned out for this exciting event. You will
view many of the same strategies we use that fund
millions of dollars of capital improvements at no
cost to our clients.

The Northeast Sustainable
Energy Association (NESEA)
is sponsoring the regional tour as part of a
national network of solar and green tours. It's a
volunteer effort, with property owners — both
residential and commercial — welcoming visitors to
share such green building features as high
performing windows, daylight harvesting, LED
lighting, photovoltaic solar panels, energy recovery
ventilators, rainwater harvesting, and instantaneous
hot water heaters, to name a few.
Green buildings are on average
25 percent to 30 percent more energy-efficient than
their conventionally-built counterparts. This is of
particular importance considering buildings use
about 75% of all the electricity we generate in the
nation and account for about half of all the total
energy use and CO2 emissions.
NESEA offers school systems
various curriculum templates. One, Energy Thinking,
helps students analyze and evaluate energy use in
their lives. Steeped in state-specific standards and
statistics, the course lets students investigate the
concept and applications of energy and types of
energy utilized by their state. Information about
this curriculum and other NESEA programs can be
obtained by contacting NESEA at
nesea@nesea.org.
