Michael Shilale, AIA, LEED and John Cirilli, AIA,
LEED were invited as the district architects of
North Rockland Central School District to a press
conference this Monday. School officials, teachers,
and the media gathered at Gerald Neary Elementary
School to hear Congressman John Hall and
Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey brief the district on
the award they would receive as a result of the
recently passed 21st Century Green High-Performing
Public Schools Facilities Act.
The act will put into effect a nationwide plan to
provide more efficient, alternative energy sources
at public schools, as well as other environmental
initiatives. These projects will include solar
panels, LED lighting, and rainwater harvesting, to
name a few. And, importantly, schools will educate
teachers, officials, and students in these
alternative energy sources and environmental
practices, in order to bring communities together in
these green movements. North Rockland has truly
stepped up in their responsibility to educate - in
fact, Monday’s press conference coincided with a day
of teaching efficient energy methods to North
Rockland teachers.
Michael Shilale Architects, LLP has and will
continue to partner with North Rockland Central
School District on new green projects. The 21st
Century Green High-Performing Public Schools
Facilities Act granted schools $6 billion, and North
Rockland will receive $400,000.00. This will go
toward projects MSA has in the works with the
district such as energy efficient boilers, solar
panels, and an energy performance contract that will
provide North Rockland’s schools with a new set of
energy sources, environmentally and financially much
more efficient. These new methods will not only help
the environment and improve the students’
surroundings, they will also save taxpayers money.
The grant that North Rockland will receive from this
act is truly an exciting step forward for North
Rockland Central School District and Michael Shilale
Architects, LLP.
