New City   -  Michael Shilale, AIA, LEED has been named the Chair of the Rockland Business Association’s (RBA) Green Council. This new committee had its kickoff meeting on Monday March 24th. Over twenty RBA members attended the breakfast at Blue Hill Plaza for what was an informative and dynamic exchange. Individuals expressed their relationship to the environmental movement and their reasons for participating in this Council. The mission and goals of the committee are being created, as well as an exciting selection of tools and programs to serve the over 1000 RBA members.

Michael Shilale believes businesses, builders, developers and municipalities need information and direction. The council’s initial goals should include, ‘tool kits,’ seminars, an information clearinghouse and communicating funding opportunities for members who want to be ‘green’ and save money. According to the USGBC, by 2010 the green building market will exceed $60 billion. Businesses not involved in this evolution will be at a distinct disadvantage.

All businesses should visit NYSERDA’s website where there are many financial incentives to businesses and residents to address New York's energy and environmental needs. Energy Audits are available for $100 and $400 depending on the size of your utility bill. The small initial fee is applied to any upgrades and payback periods are quick so that you begin saving energy and money almost immediately.
