New City NY -
It
is not only a big week for Architecture – It’s a big
year. This week America celebrates National
Architecture week. AIA is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
Architects and AIA chapters are celebrating this
important milestone by giving America a birthday
present. AIA's comprehensive community service
program is titled Blueprint for America. AIA
Architects, across the nation, are donating their time and expertise to
show communities good design makes a difference.
You may have noticed the red banner hanging outside
our front door. It is appearing throughout the
country announcing AIA’s sesquicentennial (150th
anniversary).
Our own chapter here in the Lower Hudson Valley is
working with a land conservancy to help restore a
historic building and bring sustainable design
concepts to the project. Across America important
and exciting projects are well underway to help our
towns, villages and cities build better communities,
that are safe, sustainable and beautiful. Visit
AIA150.org for more information on these
initiatives.
AIA has created it’s own version of an Architectural
American Idol. The 150 buildings voted to be
America’s favorites are listed on the AIA150’s
website. You can still vote for your top five
buildings and be a part of this celebration.
