New City NY -
John Cirilli , AIA has connections all over the
county as a result of his position as partner with
Michael Shilale Architects, LLP in New City. One of
them, Paul Trader, the Director of the Cornell
Cooperative Extension Institute for Nonprofits, is
responsible for telling Cirilli about the Arts
Council of Rockland. That first introduction quickly
led Cirilli to his recent appointment to the board
of the Arts Council of Rockland. This involvement is
not for the faint of heart. Board members commit to
an eight year term, meeting monthly to review new
grant applications, make recommendations about other
agencies or individuals, attend functions and vote
on related business matters.
“After finding out what the Arts Council does to
support creative works in dance, media, print and
performing arts, and the important role they play in
the development of current and new arts initiatives,
I was eager to be a part of it,” says Cirilli, whose
corporate headquarters is known for showcasing
striking examples of outdoor sculpture.
“We’re delighted to have John join the Board,” says
Mark Judelson, Executive Director of the Arts
Council. “As a visual artist and a professional
architect, John brings a fresh eye to our work.”
The Arts Council of Rockland, with offices in Spring
Valley, has been promoting and encouraging all forms
of artistic disciplines since it’s inception in
1973. The Council hosts exhibitions and awards grant
money to various individuals and organizations every
year; most recently they divvied up $25,550 between
14 award recipients. Their next big event – the
County Executive Art Awards - will be held April 26
at the Riverspace in Nyack. For more information
