If AIA is the “voice” of the profession, what is it that we are saying? Lots of things if you look at AIA’s public policy and position statement found at www.aia.org. AIA says something about over forty critical issues affecting our colleagues and our communities.

Who are we saying it to? Well in New York State it just a lot easier. Many of you are familiar with the email alerts AIA national sends out. That same service, called ‘Vocus’ is now available to all 6000 AIANYS members. We have just begun to implement this powerful tool that makes it easy to tell your elected officials what you think. You will no longer have any excuse not to advocate. Your efforts makes our profession more potent and meaningful. Next time you receive the email alert, please respond.

AIANYS has made some political progress with our recent success on illegal practice and a close call this year on wicks reform. We need your help to define our legislative agenda and make it happen.

Vocus helps, and your efforts will be more effective and recognized.

AIA national is calling for issues at the federal level. They want to know what legislative issues are important to you. Speak up.

If we have a comprehensive agenda and speak effectively with one voice we can make a difference on issues that effect our profession.
