New City -
Michael Shilale, founder and managing partner of
Michael Shilale Architects, LLP has announced that
his firm has recently been awarded the design bid
for a Hospice Home, for the United Hospice of
Rockland. The bid was won over a national search
that comprised seven other firms.
The Hospice Home (the sixth of its kind in New York
state) will serve needy patients who are seriously
ill in Rockland and lower Orange Counties in a
home-like environment; providing
services that will include pain and symptom
management, nursing care, spiritual and bereavement
counseling, and support groups for surviving family
members.
“We went through a very thorough process in
selecting the architect, and Michael was heads above
everyone else we interviewed,” said Amy Stern,
executive director of United Hospice of Rockland.
“Not only did he have experience (Shilale’s firm was
retained to design United Hospice’s new headquarters
in New City), but he also understood our mission and
what we are trying to accomplish, so that made him
the superior candidate.”
Locally Michael Shilale AIA, LEED along with his
partner John Cirilli AIA, have a solid history of
project design for area non-profits serving
developmentally and physically challenged clients
and patients, including; Jawonio, for the
Paul J. Tendler
Independent Living Center in New Hempstead; and Camp
Venture Inc., for the Kathleen Lukens Living Center
in Sparkill and the Alzheimer’s Wing at Venture Inn,
in Nanuet.
“Life is a precious thing. We understand the
challenges that people have, whether they are in
wheelchairs, or dealing with various illnesses or
other disabilities. We tailor our approach, are
sensitive to their situations, and design the
environment with a focus on our client’s goals,”
said Michael Shilale.
Shilale sits on the board of various area
organizations, as President
of the Board of Directors of the Rockland Housing
Action Coalition, Inc. and in 2006 as President of
the Westchester/Mid-Hudson chapter of AIA (American
Institute of Architects). He also is a member of Art
